Hello, snow! It snowed about 25 cm on Monday, making it the most snow Korea ever had in the last 104 years. Well, thanks to the snow, I had two full snow days right after the winter break, which was pretty much the best thing that could ever happen to me on a Monday morning. Even though it did take me two hours to drive through the snow and the traffic, not to mention the occasional people walking in the middle of the road, just to arrive at school. And it turned out that school was canceled. Jesus.
So anyways, here is a playlist of songs that are simply brilliant. They are all worth listening to, especially the first few.
1. Boy 1904 – Jonsi and Alex

When I first heard this song, I was like “What is this madness”, but this is a song that you have to hear over and over again, to emmerse yourself completely, to appreciate it. I personally think that the music is mesmerizing, and I definitely recommend the whole album (Riceboy Sleeps) for a listen!
Boy 1904
2. Horchata – Vampire Weekend

I love Vampire Weekend, since their “A-Punk” and “The Kids Don’t Stand a Chance”. This song, just like their previous ones, is brilliant and very extremely cute.
3. Boy Lilikoi – Jónsi

This. Song. Is. Awesome. This song is probably on my list of “greatest songs on the planet”, that is, if I made one. This song is indescribable. It’s mesmerizing, original, and from Jonsi, from Jonsi and Alex. Jonsi was originally from an Icelandic band (forgive me, I forgot the name of the band) and he is releasing his solo album in 2010 (which is pretty much now).
4. So Far Around the Bend – The National

5. Rum Hee – Shugo Tokumaru
6. 1901 – Phoenix

7. In the Tree Written – Priscilla Ahn

One of my favorite singers of all times, along with Ingrid Michaelson and Meiko. Priscilla Ahn has the most soothing, mesmerizing, and simply amazing voice of all times (bit similar to that of Nora Jones). I can go on and on about Priscilla Ahn, but the list must go on!
8. Little Bribes – Death Cab for Cutie
9. Hearbeat – José González

Soothing, soft. Brilliant.
10. Shining Path Pt.2 – OK Ikumi

Brilliant, brilliant, brilliant! I have no other words for it.
11. Rollerblades – Eliza Doolittle

The cutest song I have heard in the past month. The songs of Eliza Doolittle (even the name is adorably cute) are all upbeat, and with the British accent, they are irresistible. The lead vocal reminds me of Lily Allen + Kate Nash put together, minus the swearing.
12. Ob-la-di, Ob-la-da – The Beatles

My current favorite song from the Beatles. On a day like today (murky, grimy, and a bit desolate), upbeat songs like this are perfect to listen to.
13. We Walk – R.E.M.
14. Thou Swell – Blossom Dearie

This is an old, old song from the 1957. Fluent in both French and English, Blossom Dearie’s songs are perfect for, again, days in the winter. Her songs, especially from this album, reminds me of Christmas and the snow. You really want to snuggle up with a blanket in front of the fireplace…but again, maybe that’s just me..
15. Cudderisback – KiD CuDi

16. Some People – Goldfrapp
17. Death and All His Friends – Coldplay
18. Comme des Enfants – Coeur de Pirate

Hailing from Quebec, Canada, this young singer has an amazing voice! She sings mostly in French, which is her native language. Her cover of “Umbrella” by Rihanna is really well done, and I advise you to check it out.
19. Expialidocious – Pogo

Another best song of the bests. I literally cannot put into words how amazing and brilliant this artist is. Basically, what Pogo does is he takes various scenes from movies (usually from Disney, like Alice in Wonderland and Mary Poppins), cuts the dialogue from the movie into little bits, and joins them together into a song. Sounds complicated? You’ll probably do better in listening to the actual song itself. I really want to post a video, but it would only let me add links, not the video. Hmm.
20. Favorite Things – Pomplamoose
A Youtube group. They do covers of popular songs, like “Single Ladies” and “Favorite Things” (from the Sound of Music), and add their own flair to it. The final outcome is amazing. The vocal has a really gifted voice, the kind you want to listen on a loop.
